History

The Rye Education Foundation (REF) was established in June 1996. An anonymous donor gave $500,000 and the community matched it with another $500,000 to establish a $1,000,000 endowment fund to support unique educational opportunities for students at Rye Schools. REF awards grant funds for projects that fall outside of the Rye school district budget. Grants are reviewed twice yearly in November and April. Total grant funding is $30,000-$40,000 each year. REF is comprised of a Grants Committee and Executive Board. The Grants Committee reviews and recommends grants for funding. Its members also serve as Liaisons assigned to Rye teachers to provide assistance during the application process. The REF Board manages and awards grant funding and is responsible for public relations and communications for REF.
